Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office?

The Meadows Office Complex

1130 Ten Rod Road, Suite D 308 North Kingstown, RI 02852

I am in the Meadows Professional Office Park, which is conveniently located in North Kingstown off exit 5. The complex is behind a BankRI. Come to Building D at the back of the complex and up to the 3third floor. The building is handicapped-accessible.

What are your office hours?

I am in the office on Mondays and Fridays 9:30-1:30; Tuesdays 9:30-8:00 and Thursdays 9:30-6:00.

How do I make an appointment?

Before your first appointment, we will have a brief phone consultation. If we determine that we are a good fit for working together, we will schedule your first session at that time. We typically schedule subsequent sessions at the end of your appointments.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

If you are looking at my Website because you were drawn to the holistic approach that I offer, that is a good start. When you contact me, we can set up a brief phone consultation where I can learn about your concerns and answer any questions you have about my practice. This will help us decide whether I’m a good fit for what you are looking for.

What if I need you after hours?

One of the goals for our initial phone consultation is to determine the appropriate level of care for you. I strive to be available for my clients and have a policy to return communication within one business day, but my official availability is during normal business hours.

A mental health agency offers 24/7 crisis phone support which may be necessary if you are actively suicidal, in unsafe living conditions, recently postpartum, or struggling in another high-risk condition.

What age range do you work with?

I work with adults and with self-motivated adolescents. The teenagers I accept into my practice, like the adults, are willingly pursuing therapy for the purpose of anxiety and mood management as well as personal growth.

How often are sessions?

We will decide together how frequently to schedule your appointments based on what your goals are. Most of the time it’s helpful to start coming once a week to get the ball rolling; some people prefer to space it out to twice a month after the first 4-6 sessions, while others appreciate the weekly work.

How many times will I need to come?

That will depend on you, your goals and intentions. Traditional psychotherapy requires a mental health diagnosis and typically ends when symptoms are managed; holistic counseling can extend beyond this limitation into the vast arena of personal growth.

There is no end to our capacity for personal growth, but you will probably not choose to stay in therapy for the rest of your life. My clients most often decide to end therapy once they’ve learned the coping skills and mindset to manage life’s challenges more comfortably and gracefully.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, I ask that you please give 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel your appointment. I offer one “freebie” missed appointment or late cancellation because I know that “life happens.” After that the full fee for the missed session is charged because the spot was taken and unavailable to other clients. In the event that there are three missed appointments within six months, I will be unable to schedule you in a “repeating” time slot.

What can I expect to get out of working with you?

You can expect to feel better. You can expect to arrive at practical solutions to the problem(s) you came in with, including coping skills, resources and strategies for managing your life. You can also expect to leave with insight into your own personal patterns and behaviors that contributed to your situation, and to feel equipped to prevent them from repeating the same type of problems again.

You list a lot of books in your “Resources” section - do I have to read if I work with you?

No, there is no required reading! However, books do hold a lot of wisdom, and I love to help you benefit from them. Even if you’re not a reader, we may help you discover that audiobooks work well for you. I’ve even created book summaries of a few of my very favorites! But the short answer is no, you don’t have to read to benefit from working with me.

Do I have to be spiritual to work with you?

No, absolutely not. While our discussions may touch on the concept of a “higher self” or “observer,” this is not an exclusively religious or spiritual concept. In fact, for the purposes of our work, it becomes a “felt” experience that ultimately supports your mental and physical health.

I see you are a yoga teacher. Do I have to do yoga if I work with you?

No, you do not. I offer yoga-based interventions to clients who are interested. There are many yoga postures and breathing techniques that can help increase mood and decrease anxiety, but they are just some of many interventions we can choose from. We start with what you are comfortable with.
